Julia Stilke is interested in combining academic research with political and environmental activism. Currently, she is a PhD student in the program History and Philosophy of Science at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon. Within her thesis project Artificial Intelligence in Dialogue: Transcending Ethics – Introducing Feminism, she combines a feminist science and technology studies (feminist STS) perspective with ethnographic fieldwork, to analyze and critically discuss the social and environmental impacts of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Before starting her PhD in Lisbon, Julia has worked at the Technische Universität Braunschweig, Germany, in an interdisciplinary research project on human demands of sustainable aviation. The objective of the project was to democratize research processes by using methods from Participatory Design, to introduce marginalized perspectives into engineering research on sustainable mobility.
Julia Stilke holds a bachelor’s degree in cultural sciences and business economics (Leuphana Universität Lüneburg, Germany) and a master’s degree in the course Cultures of the Technological and Scientific World (Technische Universität Braunschweig, Germany).
