On the nature of phenotype construction: a dispositional account
30 / 11 / 2021

In this presentation we aim to provide a biologically tenable and metaphysically coherent account of developmental dynamics and phenotype construction. By illustrating several biological examples in sufficient detail, we shall aim to substantiate our metaphysical analysis. We shall argue that developmental dispositions are not intrinsic but rather extrinsic relational properties of developing organisms. Relatedly, we shall defend a constructivist view of the developmental process: phenotypic potentialities might change during development as the result of environmental interaction.
